Overview

Support the News and Media Unit in promoting an informed understanding of the United Nations' work and goals by reaching out to media, government, academia, schools, and civil society organizations.


Tasks Summary
  • Monitor German language Austrian media coverage for national and UN topics
  • Translate and summarize articles for a daily press review
  • Follow press conferences by the Austrian Government and summarize key points
  • Draft content for social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram), including preparing visuals using CANVA
  • Draft and edit media texts, including press releases and online articles in German and English
  • Assist with research on specific topics
  • Support the production cycle of videos, photos, and audio
  • Assist in the preparation, implementation, and follow-up of press briefings, outreach events, high-level visits, and conferences
  • Perform other tasks as necessary

Experience Requirements

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. A field of study that is closely related to the type of internship is required. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable. Experience with writing for social media platforms and creating visual content using CANVA should be highly desirable.


Qualification Requirements
  • Enrolled in, or recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) OR enrolled in, or recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent)
  • Computer literate in standard software applications
  • Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in oral and written German is required.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of a UNIS client country language (Hungarian, Slovak, Slovene) is an additional asset.

Contract Duration: 6 months

Work Modality: In-person full-time

Remuneration: The internship is UNPAID. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
