Overview
This role involves applying professional engineering knowledge and expertise in the design, construction, or repair of various structures and activities within UN field deployments. The position requires managing engineering projects and ensuring technical feasibility.
Tasks Summary
- Applies engineering calculations, practices, and precedents for design, construction, or repair of buildings, roads, airfields, water facilities, and other structures.
- Establishes and manages UN records systems for engineering, including Umoja Real Estate accounting and solicitation processes.
- Manages requisitioning, UN assets, and property management rules.
- Conducts technical evaluations of solicitations for engineering capacities.
- Plans and designs project specifications.
- Liaises with other engineers and specialists.
- Produces cost data and estimates for field missions.
- Analyzes project proposals for technical feasibility and resource attainment.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in management of civil engineering works, particularly in human habitation.
- Experience in the management of multidisciplined engineering projects.
- Experience in establishing and implementing infrastructure for UN Secretariat initiatives (e.g., gender parity, increasing female participants in peacekeeping).
- Experience in improved camp design for initiatives like Engineering Guide manuals, Elsie Initiative, and Positive legacy.
- Experience in providing fit-for-purpose civil engineering solutions.
Qualification Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in engineering, architecture, or related field.
- A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted.
