Overview

The role involves following up on individual legal cases with Lebanese authorities to resolve issues related to civil documentation, legal residency, and other protection concerns for Palestine Refugees in Lebanon. It also includes conducting outreach activities and providing legal counselling.


Tasks Summary
  • Follow up on individual legal cases with relevant Lebanese authorities.
  • Conduct outreach activities in refugee camps and gatherings.
  • Meet beneficiaries, review documentation, provide legal counselling, and identify referrals.
  • Assess eligibility for legal aid support.
  • Represent or accompany beneficiaries in interactions with Lebanese authorities.
  • Organize periodic case review meetings.
  • Coordinate with the broader UNRWA Legal Aid team.
  • Maintain records of cases and provide reports.
  • Analyze legal cases to identify patterns and contribute to awareness materials.
  • Monitor and report on legal and policy trends affecting Palestine Refugees.
  • Support strategic advocacy efforts.
  • Strengthen working relations with relevant Lebanese authorities.

Experience Requirements
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible and relevant legal experience, including practice before national authorities.
  • Demonstrable experience in legal aid, protection, or access to justice programming, particularly with refugees, asylum seekers, or other vulnerable populations.
  • Strong knowledge of Lebanese civil documentation, family law, and residency regulations.
  • Experience in providing legal counselling and casework in complex or sensitive legal matters.

Qualification Requirements
  • A university degree in law (LLB or equivalent) and advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Law, or a related field such as refugee studies, international development, or international from an accredited institution.
  • Membership in the Lebanese Bar (Beirut or Tripoli Bar Association) and in good standing is required.
Other Details

Languages Required: English and Arabic are required.

Contract Duration: 6 months - with the possibility of further extension

Remuneration: LDC- Band G monthly salary of USD 2,255.20 (basic salary USD 2,088.20 + special allowance USD 167)
