Overview

The Transport Assistant will be responsible for providing surface transport services in support of field mission activities. This role involves managing various aspects of transport operations, including fleet inventory, warehouse supervision, dispatch, and driver testing.

Tasks Summary
  • Monitors distribution of non-expendable transport assets and ensures bi-annual physical inventory.
  • Maintains records for non-expendable transport assets in fleet management databases.
  • Coordinates Vehicle Establishment Committee (VEC) meetings and implements the Vehicle Replacement Policy.
  • Processes vehicle write-off cases and provides technical expertise on Contingent Own Equipment (COE) and safety inspections.
  • Supervises the Transport Warehouse, ensuring sufficient stock of spare parts and conducting inventory checks.
  • Determines technical specifications and drafts proposals for requisitions for spare parts, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensures routine transportation requirements are identified and analyzes transportation requests.
  • Supervises route planning and reconnaissance, and prepares/disseminates information regarding transport services.
  • Ensures maximum utilization and effective use of vehicle and driver resources.
  • Provides transportation briefings to incoming personnel.
  • Monitors periodic maintenance and repair of vehicles.
  • Maintains databases to monitor personnel in possession of UN driving permits.
  • Conducts driving test assessments for field mission staff members.
  • Monitors contractual performance of vendors and verifies financial invoices.
  • Participates in the development of the Transport Unit’s/Section’s annual budget proposals and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Participates in training activities to enhance staff capacity.
Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in motor vehicle transport operations or related area is required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in supervising and monitoring rotation of drivers, roster, and movement activities of surface transport operations in a conflict or post-conflict environment is desirable.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in transport assets management, fleet maintenance, and/or fleet operations at the international level is desirable.
  • Experience working in a UN field mission and experience in international operations in a post conflict environment is desirable.
  • Experience in managing fleet operations and management using the Electronic Vehicle Monitoring System (EVMS) and in training other colleagues in Carlog operations is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Technical or vocational certificate in mechanical engineering, transportation, logistics or other related fields is desirable.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Languages Required: English is required.

Languages Preferred: French is desirable.
