Overview

The Assistant Statistics and Data Analysis Officer will contribute to UNHCR country data, information management, and registration strategies by providing statistical and analytical inputs. The role involves undertaking and coordinating data analysis, managing datasets, and developing analytical products to support operational decision-making and reporting.

Tasks Summary
  • Contribute to UNHCR country data, information management and registration strategies by providing statistical and analytical inputs.
  • Undertake and coordinate data analysis using UNHCR data systems (including KOBO and ActivityInfo).
  • Manage, clean and structure datasets from UNHCR systems, surveys and external sources.
  • Develop and maintain analytical products, including dashboards, tables, charts and written analysis.
  • Support data visualization, dissemination and effective use of analytical outputs.
  • Transform raw datasets into structured analytical products.
  • Undertake descriptive and inferential statistical analysis, trend analysis and basic modelling.
  • Develop reproducible analytical outputs with appropriate documentation and metadata.
  • Provide quality assurance for analytical products.
  • Advise operational colleagues on the interpretation and appropriate use of analytical findings.
  • Support the design, coordination and implementation of surveys, assessments and data collection exercises.
  • Apply statistical methods for secondary data analysis, population estimation, vulnerability and targeting exercises.
  • Compile, validate, consolidate and disseminate official statistics on populations of concern.
  • Ensure methodological consistency, documentation and compliance with relevant organizational guidance.
  • Engage with government counterparts, national statistical offices and implementing partners on data collection, analysis and reporting activities.
  • Participate in inter-agency and multi-partner coordination mechanisms.
  • Support capacity strengthening activities for UNHCR staff and partners.
  • Provide ad-hoc support to monitoring, reporting and evaluation processes.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Experience Requirements
  • At least five (5) years of professional experience in the data or statistical field, including significant experience in data analysis and transforming data into analytical products that support planning, programming or reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience with national and/or international statistical systems, including application of national and international standards on socio-economic indicators and analysis.
  • Practical experience in data collection and analysis, including familiarity with different methodologies (survey design, sampling, data quality assurance, metadata documentation).
  • Strong competency in the production of analytical outputs (e.g., analytical briefs, dashboards, tables, statistical summaries).
  • Ability to translate operational or planning needs into clear technical guidance for data collection and analysis, and to communicate analytical findings effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working with partners, including government counterparts, national statistical offices, and humanitarian or development actors.
  • Proven proficiency in key statistical tools and data analysis environments (e.g., R, Python, Stata, SPSS, or equivalent).
  • Practical experience with mobile data collection tools (e.g., KoBoCollect or similar platforms).
  • Experience in field or operational contexts is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of data visualization and business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Familiarity with geospatial analysis and GIS tools.
  • Understanding of the principles and concepts of international protection, displacement and humanitarian contexts.
  • Knowledge of UNHCR policies, standards, programmes and operational frameworks.
  • Familiarity with monitoring & evaluation frameworks and indicator tracking.
  • Experience in strategic planning, project development or resource mobilisation processes.

  • Bachelor degree and higher
  • Field(s) of Education/ Certificates and/or Licenses: Economics, Statistics
  • Operational Data Management Learning Program

Languages Required: English, Armenian

Languages Preferred: Russian, other UN language

Contract Duration:

Work Modality: physical presence in the office

Remuneration: Suggested Monthly Fee and currency - the estimated amount as per the UN Common System salary scale in Armenia, equivalent to the level of the engagement (NOA) . The degree of specialization required by the engagement, knowledge, qualifications, experience and skills will be considered to establish the fee. Payment will be implemented by Armenian Drams (AMD) as per the Manager receipt of services.
