Overview

The Language Specialist (Translator) translates, drafts, and edits administrative, legal, economic, scientific, and technical content into Chinese. The role supports the IAEA's mission of fostering the exchange of scientific and technical information.

Tasks Summary
  • Translate into Chinese a broad range of administrative, legal, scientific and technical content ensuring that translations are equivalent in meaning and style to the original content.
  • Edit content in Chinese as required.
  • Draft official records of official Policy Making Organs (PMO) meetings, or any other type of document, as required.
  • Clarify points of language in Chinese content for other Language Service teams.
  • Research terminology to assist in the development of the central terminology database.
  • Perform any other duties, as required, to support the work of the Service.
  • Suggest innovative solutions and workflow efficiencies, as appropriate, to streamline the work of the Service.
Experience Requirements
  • At least five years of relevant working experience in translating texts into Chinese.
  • Experience in an international organization would be a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with the IAEA and its operations is an asset.
Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree - University degree in languages or a related field. Degrees in other fields will be considered, as appropriate.
  • Knowledge and experience in using Microsoft Office software and IT translation tools, in particular Trados Studio and MultiTerm.
Other Details

Languages Required: Chinese as mother tongue or principal language of education, with a profound knowledge of its grammar, style and usage. Excellent oral and written command of Chinese and English.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Contract Duration: 36 months

Work Modality:

Remuneration: Tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $71335 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 37879*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks' annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance.
