Overview
Leads or participates in economic analysis and policy formulation in areas of south-south cooperation, economic integration among developing countries, and the role of the global South. Provides substantive support to intergovernmental bodies and develops technical cooperation programmes.
Tasks Summary
- Leads or participates in the formulation, organization and management of mandated programmes of economic analysis and the formulation of economic strategies, policies and actions.
- Leads or participates in the identification of new or emerging development issues and supports the design of programmes to address them.
- Commissions economic studies and analyses.
- Conceives, plans and manages expert group meetings, seminars and consultations.
- Finalizes reports on development for issuance by the United Nations.
- Prepares speeches for senior staff and makes presentations on economic issues.
- Provides direct substantive support on development issues to intergovernmental bodies.
- Supports the management of the ECIDC’s contribution to the preparation and management of meetings of intergovernmental bodies.
- Represents the ECIDC at international, regional and national meetings.
- Develops and maintains relations with senior officials of member governments and responds to requests for advice and/or assistance.
- Negotiates with donor and recipient governments on technical assistance programmes and projects.
- Leads or participates in technical cooperation missions.
- Contributes to the formulation of the medium-term plan, the programme of work and the budget of the ECIDC.
- Participates in the formulation of the organization's overall programme of work.
- Attends to various administrative matters.
- Leads team members’ efforts to collect and analyze relevant data and provides insight to identify trends or patterns.
- Ensures that everyone can access, integrate and share the data they need.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area is required.
- Experience using R for data analysis and statistical work is required.
- At least five years of experience in data analytics, econometrics and macroeconomic modeling is desirable.
- At least five years of experience in leading a research or project team is desirable.
- Experience in macroeconomic modeling, with emphasis on the global economy and on developing countries, is desirable.
- Experience using Stata and Python for data analysis and statistical work is desirable.
- Experience using Bloomberg and LSEG terminals is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics or related field is required.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
