Overview

Leads and manages the E-Commerce and Digital Economy Branch, formulating and implementing its substantive work programme and overseeing its activities.

Tasks Summary
  • Oversees the management of activities undertaken by the Branch, ensuring timely execution and co-ordination.
  • Leads, supervises and carries out the work programme of the Branch.
  • Co-ordinates and oversees the preparation of reports for intergovernmental bodies.
  • Reports to intergovernmental bodies on budget/programme performance or programmatic/substantive issues.
  • Ensures that the outputs produced by the Branch maintain high-quality standards.
  • Assists the Director in preparing the work programme of the Branch, determining priorities, and allocating resources.
  • Undertakes or oversees programmatic/administrative tasks necessary for the functioning of the Branch.
  • Recruits staff, taking due account of geographical balance.
  • Manages, guides, develops and trains staff under his/her supervision.
  • Fosters teamwork and communication among staff.
  • Leads and supervises the organization of meetings, seminars, etc.
  • Participates in international, regional or national meetings and provides programmatic/substantive expertise.
  • Represents the Division at international, regional or national meetings.
Experience Requirements

A minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in economics, law, business administration or related field is required. Seven years of experience in digital economy is desirable. Experience leading programmes and technical cooperation projects in the area of eTrade is desirable. Experience with fund-raising and reporting on programmatic activities is desirable. Experience in managing multiple teams is desirable.

Qualification Requirements

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics, law, business administration, or related area is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Languages Required: English is required.

Languages Preferred: Either Spanish or Russian or Chinese (Mandarin) or Arabic or French is desirable.
