Overview

The Security Training Officer leads the team responsible for learning support, focusing on instructional design for online and blended learning, and managing learning systems for security training programmes.

Tasks Summary
  • Manages and leads the team responsible for learning support (instructional design for online and blended learning, implementation of best practices in technology-based learning solutions and assessments, and management of the Learning Management System and training records databases) for security training courses and security certification programmes.
  • In collaboration with substantive training teams, monitors and ensures the implementation of programmes at all stages, measuring training project performance and escalating implementation difficulties.
  • Maintains systems and databases to enable the publication of comprehensive security training documentation and data.
  • Plans, organizes, manages and supervises the work of the Team’s work programme and human and financial resources.
  • Identifies and analyzes learnings needs in coordination with substantive TDS teams and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with other parts of UNDSS to implement best practices in instructional design, technology-based learning solutions and assessments, and records management.
  • Evaluates, coordinates and monitors training programmes to ensure effectiveness in learning, impact of staff development and quality assurance.
  • Ensures the establishment and maintenance of a database to track course participants, performance and expenditure.
  • Supervises and monitors the work of junior training officers, consultants, vendors and member states’ institutions or personnel.
Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in the management, design and delivery of adult learning or security training programmes or a related area is required.
  • Management experience, including experience supervising diverse instructional design teams, in multinational and global settings is required.
  • Experience in instructional design using various methodologies (e.g. online, blended and face-to-face learning etc.) is required.
  • Experience in evaluating training or learning programmes is desirable.
  • Experience drafting course content or producing media is desirable.
  • Experience in Learning Management Systems administration is desirable.
  • Experience in coordinating activities with consultants and managing contracts with vendors and partners is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in learning, security management, business or public administration, social sciences, or related area is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A first level degree or diploma from a police or military education institution in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
