Overview

The Programme Associate G6 provides specialized effective support and technical analysis to programme policy and activities that effectively meet food assistance needs. The role reports to the Programme Policy Officer or delegate and demonstrates responsibility and initiative in responding to diverse queries with general guidance.

Tasks Summary
  • Provide technical support and assistance in the development and implementation of various processes and activities within the scope of work, in line with general programme policies and guidelines.
  • Provide specialized support for project management to specific programmes to ensure that diverse activities are carried out with established goals and applying WFP policies and procedures.
  • Within the specific area of responsibility, develop a series of reports and data analyses (e.g., on food assistance needs, resource utilization, programme progress or achievements) and highlight trends and problematic aspects, ensuring that quantifiable results adhere to institutional standards and pass quality control.
  • Perform thorough and timely data recording within the scope of the technical area of activity (e.g., assistance programmes or food security and vulnerability analysis), ensuring consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
  • Maintain contact with internal counterparts to sustain collaboration, implementation and effective monitoring of ongoing project activities.
  • Coordinate and communicate with partners, agencies, NGOs and public institutions at the local level to conduct thorough analyses of the food security situation and ensure efficient delivery of food assistance.
  • Provide support for capacity building of WFP staff, cooperating partners and national government in the specific technical area concerned.
  • Serve as a point of contact for the resolution of a range of queries and operational problems within a given technical area of responsibility.
  • Supervise and/or review the work of other support staff, providing practical advice and guidance, to contribute to achieving objectives in line with agreed standards and deadlines.
  • Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP is able to respond rapidly and deploy necessary resources to affected areas at the onset of a crisis.
  • Conduct vulnerability studies to ensure consistency of methods and quality of RAM products.
  • Prepare geo-referenced thematic maps using geographic information systems.
  • Develop technical materials on food security and vulnerability, based on the analysis and interpretation of primary and secondary information.
  • Participate in inter-agency initiatives through participation in all food security coordination mechanisms (donors, agencies and partners, government).
  • Support and update the country office targeting strategy, profiling livelihoods and other vulnerabilities in conjunction with programmes.
  • Lead inter-agency coordination spaces related to food security and provide advice on integrated phase classification.
  • Work with a wide variety of people, gathering feedback, where appropriate, to assist in the provision of operational support to staff.
Experience Requirements
  • At least six years of work experience with technical teams (e.g. Nutrition, Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (VAM), etc).
  • Has contributed to programme implementation.
  • Has attended policy discussions as an observer or helped organize them.
Qualification Requirements
  • Completion of secondary education cycle.
  • Desirable to have undergraduate studies in fields related to international affairs, or economics, or nutrition/health, or food security, or geography, or another field related to development aid.
