Overview

Provide technical feedback and guidance on methane emissions reporting for oil and gas upstream companies, supporting the OGMP 2.0 initiative.

Tasks Summary
  • Provide technical feedback on company implementation plans, technologies, methodologies, uncertainty, and reconciliation approaches.
  • Conduct regular technical calls with companies.
  • Offer technical feedback and guidance to OGMP member companies and the UNEP team.
  • Input and feedback on guidelines and other materials to support companies meet reporting requirements.
  • Lead the engagement of upstream companies from MENA, Africa and West Asia regions.
  • Organize technical calls with upstream members and potential members.
  • Be the primary point of contact for selected OGMP 2.0 companies from the upstream segment.
  • Guide OGMP2.0 companies on improving accuracy of methane emissions data quantification and reporting.
  • Lead OGMP 2.0 assurance work to develop further documentation for verification of reported data.
  • Develop technical documents and tools for methane emissions detection, quantification and mitigation.
  • Engage in technical task forces.
  • Review methodologies and technologies used by OGMP2.0 companies for annual reporting and implementation plans.
  • Analyze the uncertainty of reported data.
  • Write content and describe data for the annual IMEO report.
  • Support engaging with companies for recruitment efforts.
  • Contribute to developing and delivering technical content for the annual OGMP 2.0 Implementation Conference.
Experience Requirements
  • At least ten years of relevant work experience in the oil and gas sector, in emissions detection and quantification methodologies and technologies, and mitigation of methane emissions is required.
  • Strong quantitative skills and experience in performing rigorous analyses and summarizing technical data for a variety of audiences are desirable.
  • Understanding of oil and gas equipment, facilities, and operations for one or more segments of the oil and gas value chain; deep knowledge of upstream installations, specifically, is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise with methodologies and technologies for the detection, quantification and mitigation of methane emissions within the O&G industry is required.
  • Experience / knowledge of remote sensing and site level measurement (including top-down) technologies is required.
Qualification Requirements
  • Advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in environmental, sciences or engineering relevant field.
  • PhD is an asset.
  • A first university degree in combination with five additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
