Overview

The Field Security Associate assists in the implementation of security operations and management of safety and security for UN personnel in the Area of Responsibility.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assists the Security Adviser in collecting, updating and communicating information regarding the security situation.
  • Liaises and coordinates with host government security organizations and personnel.
  • Helps to assess the security situation and ensures adequate gathering and verification of security information.
  • Communicates information on security issues to heads of UN agencies and provides host country security advice.
  • Maintains regular contacts with Security Focal Points of UN agencies.
  • Assists in maintaining the Security Plan, including updating staff lists.
  • Supports actions during the implementation of the Security Plan.
  • Assists with the monitoring of security measures implementation.
  • Assists in reporting security incidents and preparation of security reports.
  • Provides support in organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness and preparedness.
  • Conducts security briefings.
  • Provides support in conducting security evaluations and advice on Residential Security Measures.
  • Establishes and maintains warden system.
  • Administers a pass and ID system.
  • Maintains liaison with commercial companies used for UN security.
  • Provides general administrative assistance.
  • Maintains routine and confidential correspondence files/documents.
  • Maintains a database on contact details of host country security authorities.
  • Arranges appointments, receives visitors, places and screens telephone calls with discretion, and takes minutes and/or notes at meetings.
  • Provides support to the Area Security Coordinator, Area Security Management System members and other stakeholders.
  • Performs other security-related tasks and other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
  • Seven (7) years of work experience in security, risk or disaster or emergency areas with security responsibilities, in the public or private service areas, such as national security, military or police, or in a corporate environment is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft applications i.e. Word, Excel Access and Powerpoint is required.
  • Experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable.
Qualifications

High school Diploma or equivalent is required.
