Overview

Provide strategic assistance in nutrition and public health to the Policy and Programme Unit for the implementation of programmatic interventions related to nutrition and public health, with a focus on food systems and government policies.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to the Programme Unit in the management of nutrition/public health policies/programmes, particularly in school-age nutrition, diet diversification, nutrition in emergencies, school-based nutrition interventions, and nutrition-sensitive actions.
  • Provide technical support to capacity building for WFP staff, partners, and government counterparts in specific technical areas related to nutrition.
  • Support the planning and monitoring of PEP nutrition interventions in coordination with activity managers, Sub-offices, and other involved units.
  • Monitor the implementation of nutrition actions in territories and the PEP Nutrition Behaviour Change Strategy, identifying critical issues and bottlenecks, and ensuring compliance with donor commitments and the WFP Country Strategic Plan.
  • In coordination with RAM, monitor and track the evidence generation agenda for nutrition projects and monitor nutrition indicators and the SBC plan.
  • Support activity managers in strengthening partnerships with government partners, mainly MINED, and other institutions as required.
  • Support coordination with UN agencies present in the country in the nutrition field.
  • Prepare reports and analyses on nutrition and public health, programmatic progress of nutrition projects, making recommendations to the Programme team, ensuring quality and compliance with institutional standards.
  • Provide input to the PPM team for the development of donor proposals in the field of nutrition, ensuring alignment with WFP policies and programmatic guidelines, and input for annual corporate and donor-specific reports.
  • Integrate gender equality, protection, and intercultural approach principles into all activities and projects.
  • Participate in technical meetings of the Unit and other required meetings in coordination with other Support Units involved in the technical area of responsibility.
  • Maintain constant coordination and communication with the Nutrition team of the WFP Regional Office in Panama (LACRO) to update knowledge on corporate policies and channel support to the Nicaragua office.
  • Undertake other activities requested by the Representative.
  • Support the country office in emergency situations, as required.
Required Experience
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in the management, planning, and implementation of development projects or programmes, with an emphasis on the health, nutrition, and international cooperation sectors.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in responsible positions in development projects or programmes.
  • Work experience and knowledge of national programmes with an emphasis on nutrition.
Qualifications

• University degree in nutrition, health sciences, or fields related to the objective of the position.
