Overview

The intern will support statistical data compilation and analysis, economic data management and harmonization, and research assistance for policy-oriented analytical work within the African Centre for Statistics.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the work in economic, social, demographic, spatial, environmental and other related areas as required.
  • Conduct literature reviews on statistical frameworks, indicators, case studies and country practices.
  • Contribute to drafting background research papers, presentations, blogs and technical documents.
  • Support the organization and servicing of meetings and events.
  • Provide support to capacity-building activities for countries in the African region.
  • Support communication activities related to the work of the section.
  • Perform any other duties as requested.
Required Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Qualifications
  • 1) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); OR be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); OR have graduated with a university degree and commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
  • 2) Be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • 3) Have a demonstrated and keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • 4) Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
