Overview
This internship focuses on quantitative research within the Crisis & Resilience portfolio, supporting applied research and policy advisory services related to private sector engagement in development.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather and synthesize information on agricultural systems, value chain development, and private sector resilience in fragile contexts.
- Provide writing and editing support for reports and other written outputs.
- Collect and analyze trade data for target countries.
- Undertake quantitative analysis using statistical software (e.g., R, Python) and provide data management support.
- Develop and maintain databases.
- Assist in the preparation of data visualizations.
- Provide administrative support as needed.
Required Experience
- Solid knowledge within the field of economics and development or private sector development and resilience.
- Clear and in-depth understanding of economic concepts complemented by the ability to apply them to developmental challenges and private sector issues.
- Demonstrated experience of using statistical software (e.g., R, Python, Stata) for quantitative analysis.
- Solid experience in academic writing, research and quantitative analysis.
- Experience of working on development in fragile and conflict-affected situations, particularly in Afghanistan, the Sahel is desirable.
- Experience in front-end and back-end development of digital tools or dashboards using tools such as JavaScript, Python, and data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI or Tableau) is desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the work of the UN and of UNDP, with a personal commitment to UNDP's Statement of Purpose and to the ideals of the UN Charter.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
Qualifications
• Applicants must be enrolled in a second university degree programme (Master Degree) in fields such as economics, quantitative analysis or related discipline with an emphasis on private sector engagement, OR be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (Bachelor Degree) in similar programs, OR have graduated with a university degree in similar fields.
