Overview

The internship aims to contribute to making visible the impact of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on people and communities by producing content and stories with high narrative value that strengthen public understanding of its contribution to achieving Panama's national human development goals.


Key Responsibilities
  • Elaborate proposals for human-centered stories.
  • Conduct field interviews.
  • Collect qualitative and quantitative data to support stories.
  • Write stories with a narrative and people-centered approach.
  • Adapt texts to different formats: web, newsletters, social media, institutional reports.
  • Write life profiles, testimonials, and brief chronicles.
  • Incorporate key data without losing the human focus.
  • Adjust stories for different audiences (donors, general public, partners, media).
  • Support editing and style correction.
  • Coordinate photography or video shoots to accompany stories.
  • Write brief scripts for audiovisual pieces or reels.
  • Create captions and micro-stories for social media.
  • Perform related activities as needed.
Required Experience
  • No prior professional experience is required, but the following will be valued:
  • Presentation of evidence of practice in the areas covered by the internship, whether in professional and/or school work, creative portfolio, awards obtained and/or participation in communication communities.
  • Having carried out university projects or personal projects in audiovisual or storytelling (send a small portfolio, a video made, scripts, etc.).
  • Previous experience in internships, volunteering, etc.
  • Excellent writing and spelling.
Qualifications
  • At the time of the internship application, you must meet one (1) of the following requirements:
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate program (such as a master's or higher degree) in Journalism, Literary Journalism, or Social Communication.
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university program (such as a bachelor's degree or equivalent), in one of the areas mentioned in the previous section.
  • Graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must begin the internship within one year of graduation.
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate vocational training program and undertake the internship as part of that program.
  • Desirable complementary training in storytelling or development communication.

Remuneration
The internship will receive a monthly stipend under the organization's policies. Apart from the monthly stipend, UNDP does not financially remunerate interns. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of: a) The nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students or; b) The intern, who must obtain funding for their subsistence through private sources. However, the intern's travel expenses for participation in external activities will be reimbursed by UNDP Panama.
