Overview

This internship supports the United Nations Team of Experts on the Rule of Law and Sexual Violence in Conflict (TOE) by assisting national authorities in strengthening the rule of law to ensure accountability for perpetrators of conflict-related sexual violence.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support monitoring of relevant developments in countries of interest to the TOE;
  • Assist with routine administrative tasks related to the work of the TOE and its support to the Office of the SRSG-SVC;
  • Assist in organizing conferences, events, and meetings;
  • Assist with note-taking and writing summaries/action points of internal and external meetings;
  • Assist members of the TOE with research and other related tasks;
  • Accompany TOE members to meetings with delegates from Permanent Missions, to meetings with other Secretariat offices and to sessions of the Security Council, General Assembly and other multilateral meetings;
  • Assist with the preparation of public information / social media material, presentations and documents for TOE members;
  • Perform any other functions as requested by the supervisor.
Required Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Applicants must also be computer literate in standard software applications. For an internship with the TOE, a degree in law is preferred.

Fluency in English is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Contract Duration
Initial period of three months, with an opportunity for extension up to six months.
Work Modality
In person in New York or remote, full time or part time modalities would be considered
Remuneration
The internship is UNPAID. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
