Overview

The Geotechnical Engineer Consultant will support the implementation of project activities related to socio-environmental risks and technical feasibility of urban planning interventions.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct geotechnical and slope stability assessments, including erosive processes, mass movements, soil-water interaction, and risk zoning.
  • Perform hydrological and flood risk analyses integrated with slope stability.
  • Develop geotechnical mapping products and recommend additional investigations.
  • Prepare preliminary spatial analyses to support urban intervention strategies.
  • Analyze, review, and propose adjustments to preliminary designs for comprehensive urbanization.
  • Prepare technical opinions and reports on geotechnical issues and develop geotechnical guidelines.
  • Establish guidelines for geotechnical-urban intervention typologies.
  • Identify suitable areas for stormwater infiltration and groundwater recharge.
  • Provide technical guidance to designers, planners, and engineers.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
  • Systematize the process by delivering organized documentation.
  • Present results and deliverables to UN-Habitat and local partners.
  • Ensure compliance with UN-Habitat standards.
  • Participate in meetings with UN-Habitat and other stakeholders.
  • Perform other technical support tasks as required.
Required Experience
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in Structural Engineering analysis in Brazil is required.
  • Experience in informal settlements is desirable.
  • Experience in the use of nature-based solutions is desirable.
  • Previous experience within the UN System is desirable.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering or related fields is required.
  • Postgraduate degree (Lato Sensu or Stricto Sensu) in Infrastructure, Slope Engineering and Geological Risk Management, Foundation and Retaining Structures Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or related fields, or four (4) additional years of relevant experience for the position, beyond the requirement.
