Overview

The Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Drainage Consultant will support the implementation of project activities related to environmental preservation, climate resilience, and sustainable drainage.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct an environmental assessment to support the Technical-Community Diagnosis of the Periferia Viva Action Plan.
  • Conduct hydrological and flood risk analyses and diagnose deficiencies in the stormwater drainage system.
  • Develop geospatial analyses and environmental mapping products.
  • Prepare preliminary spatial analyses, including a massing plan.
  • Analyze, review, and suggest adjustments to engineering projects.
  • Prepare guidelines report for the executive projects.
  • Develop technical recommendations for environmental conservation and restoration measures.
  • Prepare typologies of interventions.
  • Identify areas suitable for stormwater infiltration and groundwater recharge.
  • Support the preparation of preliminary cost estimates and cost–benefit assessments.
  • Collaborate with other team members to prepare technical documents.
  • Systematize the entire process through the delivery of organized documentation.
  • Present the results and deliverables to UN-Habitat and local partners.
  • Ensure compliance with UN-Habitat’s standards for visibility, data protection, and ethics.
  • Participate in meetings with UN-Habitat teams, the Municipality of Mauá, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure all content is aligned with UN-Habitat standards, methodologies, and expectations.
Required Experience
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in environmental analysis in informal settlements in Brazil is required.
  • Experience in sustainable urban drainage design and land tenure regularization is desirable.
  • Experience in the use of nature-based solutions is desirable.
  • Previous experience within the UN System is desirable.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering or related fields is required, or three (3) additional years of relevant experience for the position, beyond the requirement.
  • Postgraduate degree (Lato Sensu or Stricto Sensu) in Sustainable Urban Drainage, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering or related fields is desired.
