Overview
The Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Drainage Consultant will support the implementation of project activities related to environmental preservation, climate resilience, and sustainable drainage.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct an environmental assessment to support the Technical-Community Diagnosis of the Periferia Viva Action Plan.
- Conduct hydrological and flood risk analyses and diagnose deficiencies in the stormwater drainage system.
- Develop geospatial analyses and environmental mapping products.
- Prepare preliminary spatial analyses, including a massing plan.
- Analyze, review, and suggest adjustments to engineering projects.
- Prepare guidelines report for the executive projects.
- Develop technical recommendations for environmental conservation and restoration measures.
- Prepare typologies of interventions.
- Identify areas suitable for stormwater infiltration and groundwater recharge.
- Support the preparation of preliminary cost estimates and cost–benefit assessments.
- Collaborate with other team members to prepare technical documents.
- Systematize the entire process through the delivery of organized documentation.
- Present the results and deliverables to UN-Habitat and local partners.
- Ensure compliance with UN-Habitat’s standards for visibility, data protection, and ethics.
- Participate in meetings with UN-Habitat teams, the Municipality of Mauá, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure all content is aligned with UN-Habitat standards, methodologies, and expectations.
Required Experience
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in environmental analysis in informal settlements in Brazil is required.
- Experience in sustainable urban drainage design and land tenure regularization is desirable.
- Experience in the use of nature-based solutions is desirable.
- Previous experience within the UN System is desirable.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering or related fields is required, or three (3) additional years of relevant experience for the position, beyond the requirement.
- Postgraduate degree (Lato Sensu or Stricto Sensu) in Sustainable Urban Drainage, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering or related fields is desired.
