Overview
The UNV Energy Specialist will contribute to advancing energy transition, energy efficiency, and climate finance initiatives within UNDP Jordan’s Climate and Energy Portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct mapping and assessment of energy demand, consumption pattern and impacts of energy constraints across key sectors.
- Provide technical support to the design and implementation of energy transition and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Support development of investment-ready energy project pipelines.
- Contribute to technical assessments, feasibility analyses, and sector diagnostics.
- Support alignment of energy interventions with national policies, including NDC 3.0 and long-term energy and climate strategies.
- Contribute to policy analysis and advisory on energy transition and decarbonization pathways.
- Assist in integrating energy priorities into national planning frameworks.
- Support the design and implementation of climate finance initiatives.
- Contribute to preparation of concept notes, project documents, and donor proposals.
- Assist in identifying financing opportunities and engaging with development partners and financial institutions.
- Facilitate coordination with national stakeholders.
- Support organization of technical meetings, workshops, and consultations.
- Strengthen partnerships and stakeholder engagement for energy and climate initiatives.
- Support monitoring and reporting of project activities.
- Contribute to preparation of progress reports, knowledge products, and communication materials.
- Document lessons learned and best practices.
- Support integration of gender equality and social inclusion into energy programming.
- Promote digitalization and innovation where relevant.
- Promote volunteerism through active engagement with UNV initiatives.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing, documentation, and outreach activities.
Required Experience
- 3 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in energy sector (renewable energy, EE, or energy policy).
- Knowledge of climate change and NDC frameworks.
- Experience in project development or technical advisory.
- Strong analytical and report writing skills.
- Experience working with government institutions and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience with UNDP or international organizations (asset).
- Familiarity with climate finance mechanisms (GEF, GCF, etc.) (asset).
- Experience in Jordan’s energy sector (asset).
- Knowledge of ESCO models or energy efficiency financing (asset).
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Energy systems, renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate policy, sustainable development.
