Overview

Support the design and implementation of communication and advocacy initiatives focused on gender equality, with a strong youth-oriented approach. Assist in mobilizing young people to participate in consultations, campaigns, public events, and awareness-raising activities on gender issues.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support the design and implementation of communication and advocacy initiatives focused on gender equality, with a strong youth-oriented approach.
  • Contribute to the development of advocacy messages, key talking points, briefing notes, and visibility materials tailored to young audiences.
  • Assist in developing communication content (e.g. social media posts, short articles, visuals, presentations) to promote gender equality campaigns and UN joint initiatives.
  • Support data-informed advocacy by contributing to simple data visualizations and youth-friendly communication products.
  • Assist RCO in supporting UNCT on communication activities.
  • Support engagement with youth groups, student associations, youth-led CSOs and networks working on gender equality, women empowerment and human rights.
  • Assist in mobilizing young people to participate in consultations, campaigns, public events, and awareness-raising activities on gender issues.
  • Support the organization of youth-focused dialogues, workshops, panel discussions, and outreach events related to gender equality.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of joint UN gender campaigns, including coordination of partners and follow-up with stakeholders.
  • Support consultations with local NGOs, youth organizations, and other external stakeholders.
  • Review and summarize relevant documents, strategies, research and reports on gender equality, youth engagement and advocacy.
  • Maintain and update databases of youth and gender-related stakeholders and initiatives.
  • Support UN reporting processes related to gender equality and advocacy efforts, as required.
  • Perform other related tasks as requested by management.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Studies in communications/advocacy is desired. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Good knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams and Excel; familiarity with digital and AI communication tools is an advantage. Strong and demonstrated interest in gender equality and women’s empowerment is desirable. Good understanding of communication and advocacy process and tools and ability to work with diverse groups of people, including youth and civil society actors is desirable. Previous engagement in youth activities, volunteering or student organizations is desirable.

Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
