Overview

The Wellness Officer (Medical Doctor) will provide staff health and safety support, including hygiene and safety training, medical support during outbreaks, and assessment of health, safety, and environmental issues for WFP staff and offices.


Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the design and coordination of medical services for staff health and safety.
  • Provide technical expertise and advice on health matters.
  • Offer travel medicine services for staff on official travel.
  • Perform and assess medical examinations and clearances.
  • Review leave due to illness and identify health hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with UN medical protocols.
  • Support the Country Office in managing field medical services.
  • Liaise with local medical facilities and monitor medical bills.
  • Provide capacity for emergency response, including mass casualty incidents.
  • Implement staff health training.
  • Participate in pre-planning of emergency response operations.
  • Propose, assess, and update SOPs for staff protection.
  • Coordinate with health sector colleagues to improve healthcare access.
  • Assess and respond to disease incidents and outbreaks.
  • Identify staff with stress or psychological concerns and coordinate assistance.
Required Experience
  • Vast experience in outbreak response and emergencies.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive professional experience in healthcare, with at least 1-2 years in an international organization.
  • At least five (5) years progressive experience and practice in general medicine in developing countries or countries in conflict.
  • Previous experience in remote medicine, occupational health, or humanitarian healthcare settings is an advantage.
Qualifications
  • Medical Degree (MD/MBBS) from a recognized institution.
  • Certification in Advanced Life Support (ALS), Trauma Care, or Emergency Medicine is an advantage.
  • Postgraduate medical qualification in, preferably, one of the following medical specialties; emergency medicine, internal medicine, occupational health and safety, and/or public health.
  • Current registered to practice medicine in own country or another UN member state is required.
  • Professional trainer’s certification related to infectious diseases i.e. ebola, and other infectious diseases.
  • Formal training in CPR and, preferably in BCLS and ACLS or equivalent emergency medical care.
