Overview
The Sustainable Solutions Specialist will accelerate low-carbon development and climate resilience across ADB's member countries in the Pacific. The role involves engaging with national and regional agencies on climate change policies and plans, and supporting the preparation of country partnership strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Support departmental management and project teams on policies, strategies, and programs for climate change, environment, and DRM.
- Build networks and partner with climate change, environment and sector agencies, and development partners.
- Conduct policy dialogue with these agencies and partners.
- Analyze multiple policies, including Nationally Determined Contributions, Long-term Strategies, green growth strategies, low-carbon development plans, National Adaptation Plans, and other relevant policies.
- Identify areas of need and prioritize ADB investments across different sectors.
- Develop strategies and technical materials, including climate risk assessments.
- Lead and coordinate implementation of TA programs in climate change.
- Support mobilization of internal and external climate change finance.
- Support coordination on the exchange of information, tools, and good practices.
- Ensure coherence of ADB's investments and knowledge services.
- Contribute to the development, processing, and administration of loan, grant, and TA projects.
- Monitor and report on department-wide and division climate change targets and outcomes.
- Help grow strategic country-level approaches to climate change and DRM.
- Identify gaps and emerging operational issues and identify best practices and lessons.
- Represent the department in ADB-wide working groups, cross-departmental meetings, seminars, and events.
- Manage the performance of teams and individuals.
Required Experience
- At least 6 years of relevant professional experience in sustainable development/climate change, including international experience working in several countries, with experience in Pacific developing member countries.
- Demonstrated expertise in climate change policies and analysis, including adaptation and climate risk assessment, and low carbon technologies.
- Experience summarizing and communicating complex policy/technical information in English (written and verbal), and in collaborating with teams and stakeholders to support delivery of outputs.
- Familiarity with mandates, operations, and policies of development institutions.
- Two years of relevant experience outside ADB within the past five years is required.
- Years as an ADB-engaged consultant or contractor are considered experience outside of ADB.
Qualifications
• A university degree in sustainable development, public policy, economics, climate change, environment, or related fields; preferably at post-graduate level or its equivalent.
