Overview
Provides proofreading and text processing services for multilingual translated files, ensuring accuracy and adherence to ICAO's editorial standards before publication.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensures changes are incorporated as marked in draft copy and alerts authorities to errors.
- Verifies and corrects translated text against the English version for accuracy in elements like cover pages, dates, numbers, figures, formatting, and positioning of illustrations.
- Verifies and corrects spelling and typography in translated text.
- Formats graphics, charts, figures, and formulae in final form.
- Incorporates changes marked by translators and revisers.
- Applies ICAO’s editorial standards and keeps up-to-date with typographical rules.
- Creates or adapts formats for electronic publications.
- Collaborates on differences between electronic texts and hard copies, and modifications of original English formats.
- Ensures gDoc requests are up-to-date and workflow reflects job status.
- Prepares conversion of documents and performs system file management.
- Prepares texts for computer-assisted translation tools, including bitext alignment verification.
- Uses standard software (Microsoft Office suite, CorelDraw) for document preparation and filing.
- Adapts work methods and schedules to meet deadlines.
- Switches rapidly to alternate assignments when required.
- Modifies priorities and uses multi-tasking techniques to adjust to workload fluctuations.
- Works overtime or during night shifts as required.
- Retains files for translation jobs in accordance with guidelines.
- Provides on-the-job training and support to colleagues and temporary staff.
- Acts as Team Leader during meetings upon request.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Experience
A minimum of five years’ experience in the use of text composition equipment.
Qualifications
Secondary school or equivalent education in a Chinese-speaking school, including completion of a typing course and an office automation course.
