Overview
Contributes to the IAEA's nuclear verification mission by collecting, processing, and analysing open source information to be consolidated with other information available to the Department of Safeguards. These analyses directly contribute to the State evaluation process and the preparation of field activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in State Evaluation Groups for assigned States and contribute to the State Evaluation process by identifying, processing and evaluating the quality and reliability of safeguards-relevant information, including open-source data, nuclear material accounting data, satellite imagery and environmental sampling data.
- Conduct analyses of open source information relevant to the verification mission of the Department of Safeguards in assigned States, including from scientific and technical information sources and from nuclear trade and procurement data.
- Assist in the evaluation of State declarations, including Additional Protocol declarations, where appropriate, for assigned States.
- Conduct further research on identified issues or inconsistencies by acquiring additional relevant information, applying appropriate analytical methodologies, and documenting results in analytical reports.
- Ensure effective and timely communication and dissemination of analytical results to Operations Divisions and other departmental counterparts.
- Lead and participate in project teams in accordance with the requirements of the Divisional annual work plan.
Required Experience
Minimum of five years of experience in nuclear non-proliferation or safeguards information collection and analysis, or in nuclear research related to non-proliferation issues. Experience in the use of information collection, processing and analysis techniques, including advanced text retrieval techniques and databases.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree - University degree in science (e.g. physics, chemistry), technology (e.g. nuclear, mechanical or other engineering), or in an area of relevance to non-proliferation studies.
