Overview
The Information Systems Officer will participate in preparing user requirements, assist in the design, development, and installation of information systems, and undertake analysis of system modules.
Key Responsibilities
- Participates in preparing user requirements and other technical specifications.
- Assists in the design, development and installation of information systems.
- Undertakes analysis of well-defined modules within the system, develop enhancements and new features to existing systems; may design and implement small, stand-alone systems as needed.
- Undertakes rigorous testing and proving of applications software.
- Maintains assigned portions of systems, providing operational support for system’s applications, analyzing and implementing system changes/upgrades, etc.
- Participates in developing and maintaining Information Systems project plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Writes and develops programs to interface with existing systems.
- Ensures data security and integrity.
- Participates in developing disaster recovery plans.
- Prepares, updates and maintains system’s documentation and related technical/procedural manuals.
- Assists in procurements, including conducting needs assessments and benchmarks, preparing technical specifications and evaluation criteria.
- Assists in the set-up and monitoring of software performance measures.
- Participates in Helpdesk support services.
- Participates in facilitating communications between ITSD and its clients for good client relations and be responsible for small to medium client accounts.
- Assists in the development of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) between the client and ITSD.
- Advises users on the most suitable hardware and software for different tasks; maintains and enhances software.
- Drafts training materials and conducts training sessions and demonstrations of systems for users.
- Participates with senior staff in assessing and testing new technology.
- Performs ad hoc duties as required.
- May provide guidance to new/junior staff.
- Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods.
Required Experience
A minimum of 2 years (4 years with a first level degree) of recent and relevant experience in the planning, design, development, implementation and maintenance of modern web applications is required. One year or more experience in client-facing roles, with stakeholders from both public and private sectors is desirable. Experience with JavaScript programming language and patterns including modern backend and frontend frameworks like Angular, NodeJS, NestJS is desirable. Experience with NoSQL document databases is desirable. One year or more of experience designing, developing and implementing web applications supporting or enabling environmental and/or social sustainability, preferably in multi-stakeholder settings is desirable. Experience with rapid prototyping and UI/UX design using modern, AI-backed tools like Figma, and their translation to modern web applications is desirable. Experience with DevOps and cloud infrastructure practices, including containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines and cloud-based application deployment, is desirable.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics or related field. A first level university degree in the above subjects in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. Successful completion of degree and/or non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
