Overview
The role of an Organized Crime and Criminal Justice Specialist is to provide legal support to the UNODC office in Ecuador, ensuring the correct application of national and international legal frameworks related to organized crime and security.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal support to the UNODC office.
- Analyze and respond to legal queries related to organized crime, security, and criminal justice.
- Support the drafting of agreements and frameworks for institutional cooperation.
- Analyze legislation and legal instruments.
- Compile, analyze, and systematize information related to project activities.
- Support the consolidation, analysis, and follow-up of institutional needs.
- Provide technical assistance to state institutions on organized crime.
- Participate in technical meetings with government authorities, civil society, academia, and international cooperation.
- Support logistical coordination for activities.
- Perform other related tasks as requested by the supervisor.
Required Experience
- 3 years of general relevant experience.
- At least 2 years of experience related to organized crime, security, criminal justice, or related areas.
- Experience in criminal and/or procedural law, on issues related to organized crime, security, or criminal justice.
- Experience in drafting, reviewing, and analyzing legal documents, technical reports, and recommendations.
- Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social networks, and others).
- Desirable experience in private sector (e.g., law firms), NGOs, and academia.
- Experience with public institutions in the justice, security, or related sectors will be considered an advantage, including working with environmental authorities.
- Experience in international cooperation projects will be considered an advantage.
- Previous experience in the United Nations and/or related activities will be considered an advantage.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Social Sciences, International Relations, or related fields.
- Postgraduate studies, training, or specialization in Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, Criminology, Security, Organized Crime, Criminal Justice, or related areas in Justice and Security will be desirable.
