Overview
The Senior GIS Officer will lead a desktop study utilizing satellite imagery analysis to detect post-clearance changes in land use for a Third-Party Monitoring Project in Iraq. The role involves developing methodologies, establishing GIS tools, and supporting the drafting of a post-impact assessment report.
Tasks Summary
- Lead the development of a methodology for satellite imagery analysis.
- Oversee management and capacity development of assigned IMO.
- Conduct assessment of existing TPM datasets and undertake data re-engineering.
- Develop GIS tools to detect land use changes.
- Lead establishment of a geodatabase, symbology library, and map layers.
- Draft technical documentation for GIS development.
- Conduct geospatial analysis and create information products.
- Support the Project Manager in drafting the desktop study post-impact assessment.
- Contribute to the development of site selection methodology.
- Support design and development of additional TPM information products.
Experience Requirements
- At least 5 years of working experience in GIS, including satellite imagery analysis and remote sensing.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the humanitarian field.
- In-depth knowledge of database and GIS software.
- Experience in humanitarian information management, GIS, database management, data visualization and geospatial data analysis.
- Good knowledge of programming theory and relational database principles.
- Programming skills in Python and/or JavaScript or Model Builder applications.
- Experience in humanitarian mine action is advantageous, but not essential.
Qualification Requirements
• A Graduate of an Institute or University in the field of Information Technology, Information Management, Geo-informatics or GIS, or Computer Sciences, or similar field.
