Overview

Support the office in identifying significant humanitarian issues and problems in the assigned region/state. Develop suggestions and approaches to problem resolution, assist in managing projects and work teams, and provide advice regarding the coordination of humanitarian/emergency action.

Tasks Summary
  • Establish partnerships with humanitarian actors to plan and evaluate programs.
  • Liaise with local authorities on humanitarian operations and access.
  • Coordinate the delivery of international humanitarian assistance.
  • Conduct rapid assessments and prepare situation reports.
  • Coordinate disaster response/preparedness and project proposal formulation.
  • Support the establishment and functionality of humanitarian coordination mechanisms.
  • Represent OCHA in sectoral coordination meetings.
  • Monitor OCHA-supported project activities.
  • Monitor and collect information on humanitarian developments.
  • Establish and maintain contacts with UN agencies, NGOs, and government counterparts.
  • Contribute to situation reports and strengthen information networks.
  • Consolidate and maintain a database of information.
  • Support advocacy efforts concerning humanitarian issues.
  • Organize work groups, meetings, conferences, and consultations.
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years (with Master’s degree) or 4 years (with Bachelor’s degree) of progressively responsible experience in humanitarian work, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, or a related area.
  • Preferably with at least 2 years of experience with international organizations or national implementing partners in the region.
  • Experience coordinating humanitarian operations in Darfur, particularly North State is desirable.
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
  • Master’s degree in political or social science, law, international studies, public administration, business administration, or another relevant field is required.
  • A first-level university degree combined with an additional two (2) years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Languages Required: Fluency in written and oral English required

Languages Preferred: Fluency in written and oral Arabic desired

Contract Duration: 2 Year with Possibility for extension
