Overview

Supports the UN Resident Coordinator and the United Nations Country Team in integrating human rights into programmes and activities, and in building national capacities for the promotion and protection of human rights.

Tasks Summary
  • - Supports the UNRC and UNCT in integrating human rights into programmes and activities, including on development, and building UNCT capacities to apply a human rights-based approach.
  • - Advises the UNRC and UNCT in developing strategies and programmes to build and strengthen national capacities and institutions for the promotion and protection of human rights.
  • - Supports the UNRC and UNCT in promoting human rights as a common UN value and upholding international norms and standards through advocacy and awareness raising.
  • - Supports the UNRC and UNCT and national partners in their engagement with international human rights mechanisms.
  • - Provides advice, training and technical assistance to the Government and other national stakeholders to strengthen national capacity for the promotion and protection of human rights.
Experience Requirements

At least ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience at the national and international levels in the field of human rights, with development and/or humanitarian experience is required. Experience implementing human rights technical cooperation or mainstreaming activities is required. Experience working on human rights issues related to the African region or similar field contexts is desirable.

Qualification Requirements

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in law, political science, international relations or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Languages Required: English is required.

Languages Preferred: French is desirable.

Contract Duration: THREE MONTHS, EXTENSION SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS
