Overview
Provide high-level technical and strategic support to animal health-focused surveillance, laboratory, and genomics activities within the Pandemic Fund EPPR project. Contribute to evidence-based decision-making and strengthen the institute’s capacity to analyze pathogen genomic data.
Tasks Summary
- Perform quality control, assembly, mapping, variant calling, and annotation of NGS data.
- Conduct phylogenetic analysis, genomic epidemiology, and comparative genomics.
- Analyze PCR-derived sequence data, whole-genome sequencing data, and metagenomics datasets.
- Design, optimize, and document bioinformatics pipelines.
- Develop, deploy, and maintain bioinformatics tools and workflows.
- Manage, organize, curate, and archive genomic datasets.
- Interpret bioinformatics outputs and translate analytical results.
- Support submission of sequence data and metadata to international databases.
- Prepare technical reports, summaries, and visualizations.
- Contribute to scientific manuscripts, surveillance bulletins, technical reports, and policy briefs.
- Ensure proper documentation of analytical workflows.
- Provide training, mentorship, and technical backstopping to staff.
- Develop, adapt, and update SOPs and guidelines.
- Provide troubleshooting and technical support.
- Work collaboratively with national, regional, and international partners.
- Participate in scientific meetings and technical working groups.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in bioinformatics analysis.
- More than five (5) years of experience in pathogen genomics, molecular epidemiology, or infectious disease research.
Qualification Requirements
Essential: First University Degree (BSc) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genomics, or a closely related field. Desirable: An advanced university degree MSc or PhD in Bioinformatics.
