Overview

Provide high-level technical and strategic support to animal health-focused surveillance, laboratory, and genomics activities within the Pandemic Fund EPPR project. Contribute to evidence-based decision-making and strengthen the institute’s capacity to analyze pathogen genomic data.

Tasks Summary
  • Perform quality control, assembly, mapping, variant calling, and annotation of NGS data.
  • Conduct phylogenetic analysis, genomic epidemiology, and comparative genomics.
  • Analyze PCR-derived sequence data, whole-genome sequencing data, and metagenomics datasets.
  • Design, optimize, and document bioinformatics pipelines.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain bioinformatics tools and workflows.
  • Manage, organize, curate, and archive genomic datasets.
  • Interpret bioinformatics outputs and translate analytical results.
  • Support submission of sequence data and metadata to international databases.
  • Prepare technical reports, summaries, and visualizations.
  • Contribute to scientific manuscripts, surveillance bulletins, technical reports, and policy briefs.
  • Ensure proper documentation of analytical workflows.
  • Provide training, mentorship, and technical backstopping to staff.
  • Develop, adapt, and update SOPs and guidelines.
  • Provide troubleshooting and technical support.
  • Work collaboratively with national, regional, and international partners.
  • Participate in scientific meetings and technical working groups.
Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in bioinformatics analysis.
  • More than five (5) years of experience in pathogen genomics, molecular epidemiology, or infectious disease research.
Qualification Requirements

Essential: First University Degree (BSc) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genomics, or a closely related field. Desirable: An advanced university degree MSc or PhD in Bioinformatics.

Languages Required: Proficiency in English and Amharic Languages is essential

Languages Preferred: proficiency in additional language is desirable

Contract Duration: 6 months

Work Modality:

Remuneration: monthly remuneration of $3,598.00 paid in local currency equivalent
