Engineering Intern (Infrastructure and Project Management)

Overview

The Engineering Intern will transition theoretical civil engineering knowledge to practical site application, overseeing the warehouse construction lifecycle from foundation works to final commissioning. The role provides foundational support to the Infrastructure Unit in UNOPS Bangladesh.

Tasks Summary
  • Actively participate in the daily supervision of on-site construction activities.
  • Collate site feedback and draft preliminary reports.
  • Monitor and report on adherence to Health, Safety, Social, and Environmental (HSSE) requirements.
  • Conduct and document initial site assessments.
  • Contribute to the drafting and review processes of project designs and technical documents.
  • Participate in and document on-site meetings with contractors and key stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly progress reports.
  • Contribute to key stakeholder management and communication activities.
  • Work-shadow architects, engineers, and quantity surveyors in planning, project scheduling, and task management.
  • Ensure documentation is prepared to meet UNOPS quality standard requirements.
  • Contribute to the timely delivery of expected project outputs.
  • Learn and practice the production of bills of quantities (BoQ).
  • Maintain daily site logs and dedicated health & safety logs.
  • Execute inspection of works and accurately record findings.
  • Witness and record quality control checks.
  • Prepare site progress reports, including visual documentation.
  • Monitor project progress against the planned schedule and raise deviations.
  • Undertake a small, dedicated project to deliver a tangible process improvement.
Experience Requirements

Desired: Familiarity with structural/MEP design or construction sites or related fields would be an asset.

Qualification Requirements
  • Required: Minimum First level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent), or enrolled in a postgraduate program or graduated within three (3) years prior to the start date.
  • Desired: Area of study should preferably be in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or any other related fields.
