Overview
The Technical Officer (Health Information) is accountable for data and information management activities for Country Office programmes and health emergencies, interacting with local authorities and partners to support strategic partnerships in multi-dimensional information management processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Aggregate and maintain inter-country information from WHO and partners including contact lists, performance monitoring, health indicator data, health situation data, and health response data.
- Participate in basic geographic analysis for maps and other reports (such as dashboards, SitReps, etc.).
- Upon delegation provide information sharing between institutions, to strengthen access to information from other organizations and clusters, and to contribute to inter-sectoral dashboards and reports.
- Participate in field epidemiological surveys if/where needed, such as mortality survey, vaccination coverage surveys and new vaccine Post-Introduction Evaluation activities.
- Support conducting disease -specific epidemiological reviews and data collection and data analyses for TB, HIV, STI, hepatitis, vaccine-preventable and zoonotic diseases and relevant non-communicable diseases.
- Support the collection, analyses, production and dissemination of data/information related to outbreaks supporting the response-specific information (what, where, who, how many, how quickly, current status), internal and external situation reports (SitReps), epidemic bulletins, rapid needs assessments, health risk assessments, and the Public Health Situation Analysis; and health inputs into humanitarian needs overviews (HNO), and strategic response plans (SRP).
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Required Experience
At least two years of relevant experience in information systems management, monitoring, and data analysis including experience with public health and epidemiological -related data analysis and evidence-generation. Desirable: Relevant work experience in WHO, other UN agencies; experience working in relevant non governmental or humanitarian organizations.
Qualifications
Essential: Bachelor’s degree in information or data management, computer sciences, statistics, applied mathematics, epidemiology, public health, or a similar discipline. Desirable: Post-graduate training in epidemiology (EPIET) or similar programme; Specific training in humanitarian response or emergency information management.
