Overview

These positions involve the maintenance and validation of various operations with respect to fund accounting, resolution of queries, and assistance with the preparation of financial statements and bank reconciliation statements.


Key Responsibilities
  • Reviews, verifies, and processes payments (vendors, partners, staff), ensuring complete documentation and compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
  • Reviews, approves, reconciles and processes a range of accounting transactions on a regular and recurring basis.
  • Approves/Confirms that proposed obligations or expenditures for services, facilities supplies and equipment expenses, as well as those pertaining to personnel, are in accordance with the Financial Regulations and Rules of the UN, relevant appropriations and staffing tables and corresponding approved allotments.
  • Reviews IOV reconciliations and suspense accounts analyses during the year and prepares adjusting entries as required before preparation of financial statements.
  • Assists with the preparation of cash-flow statements for multiple accounts
  • Reviews and evaluates financial reports from Humanitarian Funding Units with a view to identifying anomalies and unusual trends. Initiates corrective action.
  • Assists in the review of consolidated Headquarters and field accounts.
  • Assists in the preparation of annual certified financial statements.
  • Assists in ensuring that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained.
  • Researches and analyses information needed to respond to audit findings.
  • Supervises staff as required.
  • Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Required Experience

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, budget, administration or the successful completion of the Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP)/United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P) is required. Experience in processing, verifying, and recording payment requests using UMOJA and other financial tools, ensuring compliance with UN regulations and internal controls, and monitoring payment workflows is required. Experience in preparing, maintaining, and analyzing financial records and reports is required. 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable

Qualifications

An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, finance, accounting, law, or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two (2) years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A first-level university degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the Young Professionals Programme Examination/United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).
