Overview

The Statistician will be responsible for coordinating and supervising the development of methods for data collection, ensuring data quality, and planning analytical programmes of work in relevant areas of statistics.


Key Responsibilities
  • Co-ordinates and supervises the development of appropriate methods for obtaining relevant data.
  • Ensures the quality of collected data for accuracy, consistency and comparability.
  • Plans and conducts analytical programmes of work in relevant areas of statistics.
  • Supervises and contributes to the development of relevant databases, web publishing tools, and other software for collection, storage and distribution of statistical data.
  • Undertakes methodological research with regard to standards on concepts, definitions and classifications.
  • Develops new or improved statistical methods and quantitative models for analyses.
  • Provides guidance and advice to Member States’ experts in the planning, operation and evaluation of statistical programmes and projects.
  • Plans and co-ordinates seminars, workshops, expert meetings, etc.
  • Plans, organizes, manages and supervises the work of the section assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of official statistics on trade and development is required. Experience in leading projects to enhance the statistical capacity of developing countries is desirable. Experience in SAS, Python and/or R is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
