Overview

This internship supports the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in advancing strategic communications and digital engagement efforts, contributing to global campaigns that promote disaster risk reduction and the Sendai Framework.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support the development of clear, engaging and impactful messaging for campaigns.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of global campaigns, with a focus on digital-first outreach.
  • Draft, edit and schedule social media content.
  • Monitor social media trends and analytics.
  • Contribute to the development of multimedia content including social media graphics, short videos, reels, animations, infographics and other visual assets.
  • Communicate and collaborate with external vendors who support the production of creative content.
  • Support the design and production of digital publications and communication materials.
  • Assist in maintaining and strengthening UNDRR’s visual identity.
  • Conduct background research, identify content and prepare talking points and briefing materials.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for events, webinars and online engagement activities.
  • Coordinate with UNDRR teams, regional offices and external partners.
  • Support the team with administrative tasks, including maintaining documentation, preparing meeting notes and coordinating internal communications.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualifications
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); OR
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated creativity and ability to conceive and produce engaging designs and compelling messaging.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated interest in disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, sustainable development, and related issues.
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams as well as design applications such as Canva.
  • Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Premiere Pro is desirable. Ability to draft campaign pitches is desirable. Experience in creative content creation is desirable.

Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
