Overview

This internship supports the Partnerships Unit in the News and Media Division by assisting with media market research and strategy development. The role focuses on audience intelligence, market trends, and content promotion.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support the review of historical research efforts to identify data gaps and contribute to a standardized research framework.
  • Assist in compiling a centralized directory of secondary data sources and building a toolkit for primary research.
  • Contribute to organizing research inputs into a structured Market Intelligence Template and supporting documentation.
  • Assist in developing and testing an LLM prompt library to support market report synthesis and audience persona exploration.
  • Support the development of a “Search Demand” module to identify audience interests and inform content planning.
  • Assist in reviewing and documenting visual and creative trends used by comparable organizations.
  • Contribute to ensuring research approaches consider diverse and underrepresented audience perspectives.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Demonstrated proficiency in using generative AI, including advanced prompt engineering, is desirable. Familiarity with data visualization and market analytics tools (e.g., Statista, GWI, Tableau, or SimilarWeb) is desirable. Experience with primary research methodologies, including survey design and qualitative/quantitative data analysis, is desirable. Experience in digital content strategy or competitive auditing across major media platforms (e.g., YouTube, TikTok, or Podcast networks) is desirable.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

3-6 months
Work Modality
Flexible. This internship is designed to be full-time and in person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate.
Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
