Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for translation, revision, terminology, and research duties, as well as administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate and self-revise from English into Russian texts relating to the Organization's activities, including technical, legal, or administrative texts.
- Revise translation work performed by external translators.
- Carry out the translation of IMO publications and ensure follow-up until final publication.
- Conduct linguistic research and assist in compiling, developing, and maintaining uniform Russian maritime terminology.
- Organize and coordinate the work of external Russian translators and monitor progress.
- Guide and train external translators and trainee translators and revisers.
- Grade tests of candidates for employment.
- Deputise for the Head of the Russian Translation Section in their absence.
- Take part in night shifts during meetings and travel on missions as necessary.
- Keep abreast of developments in computer-assisted translation and terminology tools (CATT).
- Assist in the recruitment of regular and temporary staff for the Section.
- Perform other duties as required.
Required Experience
At least seven years of professional experience in translation, of which preferably two years are self-revised, is essential. Experience in revising translation work performed by other translators is essential. Experience within the framework of an international organization would be an asset.
Qualifications
Advanced University degree (Master's equivalent) in modern languages, linguistics, translation or a related discipline. A first-level university degree with four additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
