Overview
The incumbent will lead a team focused on climate action and clean air within the maritime sector, preparing for and following up on committee meetings related to air pollution, energy efficiency, and greenhouse gas emissions from ships.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the activities and work output of the Climate Action and Clean Air Section staff.
- Assist in preparing for Marine Environment Protection Committee meetings, including documents, briefs, and reports on air pollution, energy efficiency, and GHG emissions from ships.
- Act as Secretary to working or drafting groups as required.
- Provide support for Sub-Committees concerning air pollution prevention from ships.
- Deal with MARPOL Annex VI and the NOX Technical Code, including liaison with Member Governments and industry.
- Oversee annual fuel consumption reporting and carbon intensity reporting.
- Manage work related to GHG emissions reduction from ships, representing IMO at relevant meetings.
- Provide technical support for technical cooperation activities.
- Oversee the Future Fuels and Technology project and manage the IMO GHG TC Trust Fund.
- Represent IMO at international, regional, and national meetings.
- Prepare reports and publications.
- Undertake other assigned duties.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in ship design, shipbuilding, shipping, maritime administration, international organization, classification society, or other relevant entities with emphasis on IMO matters, MARPOL Annex VI, and GHG work.
- Proven experience of at least five years within a line management capacity.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent), preferably in nautical sciences, marine engineering, naval architecture, environmental science/law or equivalent subjects.
- A first-level university degree with four additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
