Overview
Provide legal assistance to staff members within the UN internal justice system, including representation in administrative, disciplinary, and appellate proceedings.
Tasks Summary
- Provide legal assistance to persons within the scope of the administration of justice
- Advise clients on appeals against administrative decisions and disciplinary matters
- Represent and litigate on behalf of clients before the UN Dispute Tribunal and UN Appeals Tribunal
- Prepare written and oral submissions
- Identify cases amenable to informal resolution
- Assist in responding to complex inquiries and correspondence
- Conduct legal research and provide analysis of cases and jurisprudence
- Provide legal advice on substantive and procedural questions
- Review draft submissions for inconsistencies
- Assist in maintaining office registers and a legal precedent database
- Assist in preparing reports on the work of the Office
- Assist in ensuring administrative and budgetary requirements
- Perform other duties as required
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in law, including legal analysis, research and writing is required
- Two years of experience at the national or intern
Qualification Requirements
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in international law. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
