Overview

This internship is located within Cluster 1: "The Climate Change and Natural Resource Sustainability" of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The intern will assist in research, data analysis, and support for cluster activities.

Tasks Summary
  • Assist in substantive research and reviews related to Climate Change, Water Resources, Energy, Food Systems/Agriculture and Circular Economy.
  • Contribute to background notes, talking points and policy briefs.
  • Conduct data compilation, analysis, cleaning, visualization, cataloging and tabulation.
  • Generate graphs and figures using online databases.
  • Prepare literature reviews, research papers and presentations.
  • Research, draft and update documents, analytical summaries.
  • Take notes and draft related summary or verbatim reports.
  • Take pictures during events.
  • Organize and contribute to the preparation and implementation of meetings and workshops.
  • Support activities of the Cluster, both substantively and administratively.
  • Create and assist in updating content on ESCWA's website.
  • Assist in other ad-hoc activities in the Cluster, when necessary.
Experience Requirements

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.

Qualification Requirements
  • Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or
  • Have graduated with a university degree.
  • Computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
  • Knowledge in sustainable development or related issues is required.
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in English is required.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.

Contract Duration: 2 months

Work Modality: UN-House- ESCWA

Remuneration: Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
